FYI: Silent Maybe, but Idle, Absolutely Not!
Unexpectedly,
I've been consumed with a gardening, or rather landscaping project, that has had my complete attention.
In Oklahoma the weather can be unpredictable and extreme from hot and draught to intense thunderstorms with flash flooding, tornados or even the odd anomaly, ice storms.
Last week, it down poured and Will or I had to babysit the yard with a sump pump to alleviate flooding into our house at our back garage door.
Dealing with this was not on either of our agendas. Yet, I realized this was not a problem we could afford to ignore, and, thus, my life was re-ordered to resolve this issue post haste!
I've been meeting with landscapers, and gardening counselors at local greenhouses to find a solution that could be immediately implemented. WOW what a lot of work...I had to plant tons of "plugs" of various ground covers to stop our erosion and to encourage appropriate water drainage.
I am presently exhausted, I pushed myself to some physical limits in an effort to get this turf underway before the next storm(s).
Finally, I've got it planted, I'm recuperating, and hope to be back on track real soon. I was amazed at the time that passed since I last posted. If I had seen this project coming I would have posted to let you know I'd be out of touch for a bit. Today is the first day I've even turned the computer on!
It was not necessarily wisdom to push my physical limits, but the consequences of not getting it done ASAP were not something I wished to entertain either!
Sometimes, you just got to rise to the occasion and deal with what life puts before you.
Maybe if I get in the mood, I'll take some photos and share what I've accomplished. For me, this was a big deal. I am grateful, the standard heat of OK was not my companion during this work - that would have really done me in!
(I am not a big fan of intensely hot weather, mosquitoes, ants, spiders, grubs, termites, moles/voles/gophers or vampish creatures; all of which have been keeping me some company during this project!) I broke out in some kind of rash or hives which was not helpful either.
On the more pleasant side, I was being entertained by squirrels, birds galore, neighbor's dogs and cats, cool breezes, beautiful iris blooms, 3 trees, great people educating me, and Will, and, oh yeah, a few faeries and devas. Thank Universe for the other side of the coin, eh?!
I think this will look very nice when it's grown into place giving our yard an English garden look. I am hoping in time the ground covers will become our grass, and we can put the lawnmower to rest.
All to Love,
Sharon
